![]() ![]() Felipe later attended a retreat in Italy, together with other men from different parts of the world who, like him, were also willing to be sent anywhere in the world. ![]() There are more than one hundred seminaries of this kind all over the world. In order to continue his personal faith formation through the Neocatechumenal Way, he was sent to one of the Redemptoris Mater seminaries, which are seminaries that are both diocesan and missionary, and in which the Neocatechumenal Way plays a fundamental role in the formation to the priesthood. And so he decided to heed the Lord’s call through those helping him to discern. Felipe was encouraged by those leading the vocational meetings to enter the seminary. This is how at 16 years old he began attending vocational meetings, which helped him to discern his vocation. After attending it for a while, he felt that the Lord was calling him to renounce his securities and plans in order to enter into His plan. It was then that he was introduced to this charism through his parents. When he was 14 years old, he found himself in a moment of life in which he could not find any meaning. He felt the calling to the priesthood through the Neocatechumenal Way, which is a charism within the Church through which adults rediscover their baptism and mature in their faith through small communities within the parish. He entered the seminary in December of 2007. Originally from Costa Rica, where his whole family currently resides, Fr. Joseph, he hopes to be a witness of God’s guidance and love to the people who have been entrusted to him in imitation of our patron. He was ordained in Dallas by Bishop Burns in May 2018 and was assigned to Prince of Peace in Plano, where he served for 4 years. In Eucharistic adoration one evening, the Spirit of God called him into the seminary, where he discovered his vocation to the priesthood and a zeal for teaching the Word of God and the richness of our Christian faith. During his college years, he served at All Saints in youth ministry, where he grew closer to Christ through prayer and service. Stephen moved to Richardson to attend the University of Texas at Dallas, where he got an engineering degree. In his parish and school, he sang in the choir and served as an altar server and sacristan. He attended Catholic schools in Austin from 1st grade through high school. Stephen grew up in Austin in a small Catholic parish that was founded the year he was born.
